I got tired of having to change hand positions when braking. I do not consider it a very safe maneuver with cars zipping by you on the non-bike trail roads around here. I looked over a mountain bike one day and liked the control setup but not the bars. So I went searching for brake levers and found these. I am pleased. I also switched my dropped bars for time trial or cow horn bars and my down tube shifters for thumb shifters. The controls all mount nicely together and I have much quicker access to my brakes than with conventional handles. The cross handles are very secure and offer at least as much brake grip as the conventional handles, if not more.They snuggle nicely with the thumb shifters without losing use of the adjuster barrels. Look good, feel good, work good. Great buy. Outside of a Topeak Master Blaster and tire levers, these cross brake levers have the best utility-to-value ratio of any cycling accessory that I have used. These are a must for anyone who rides a road bike on congested city thoroughfares, when you aren't always riding on the hoods/drop downs but always need to be ready to quickly and reflexively use your brakes. These levers are simple but fully functional. Despite the $20-25 price and the fact that these are not primary brake levers, the construction is surprisingly good what one would expect from name brand set of mtb brake levers. The tektro levers look to be solid and well-made, and they pivot smoothly and precisely. The installation per the directions is straight forward with minimal tinkering. The only critical issue is cutting your existing cables at the right spot and taking them a part so you can slide back them through these levers. I would definitely recommend having replacement cables ready because they are cheap... She was not able to brake from the hoods on her brakes and these allow her to brake with no problem. The installation was easy and the brakes are solid with no sponge and no effect on the main brake levers. She is using them with Campagnolo Chorus brakes. |
