The "jewel" looks very good and shines brightly when light hits it. The jewel mount is metal--no plastic here--and the nut that holds everything together is a acorn nut which looks better than a standard hex nut.The leather is nice and soft and bends around the hub well. I have had other hub shiners with leather so stiff it doesn't bend freely around the hubs. However, there does seem to be quite a bit of variety in stiffness. One set of shiners I have has this very soft leather, whilst another set I have is not nearly as soft and are, therefore, stiffer. The better, softer ones had a date of 2003 on the "card" they came on. The lower quality ones were dated 2010 and are "Made in Taiwan." The better, older ones did not have a country of origin on them. So, anyway, you are probably better off if you can find the older ones. The newer ones are good, just not quite as good.
