![]() By ALMD12 (Birmingham, AL) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Dimension 700c Road Fork (Misc.) I needed a new 1" threadless fork for an early 2000s Specialized Allez (used for casual riding and exercise) after a crash trashed the original fork. This relatively light, good looking fork fit the bike perfectly... after minor modification.Initially, as mentioned by another reviewer, the crown race did not seat completely flush at the bottom of the steerer. However, after about a minute of gentle, circular sanding of the bottom 1/2 inch of the steerer with 220 grit sand paper, the race went down securely in place (completely flush at the bottom of the steerer). My brakes, Shimano Tiagra, attached easily with the original hardware, and they did not require any additional washers/spacers etc. A standard QR skewer (100mm?) clamps securely on the fork. Obviously, as with any fork the steerer has to be cut to the appropriate length (and minor sanding may be required), but for my first fork install, I'd say this is a pretty easy project. The fork... Read more ![]() By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Dimension 700c Road Fork (Misc.) I was ecstatic to be able to find a 1" road fork for so cheap! Paint quality seems good, the fork itself is a good weight not too heavy, but solid construction. A couple notes about this fork: you will probably need about a half inch of washers to mount your road caliper, because the fork is very thin (I used the $20 origin 8 road brake caliper, and the nut wasn't able to thread enough to tighten the brake to the fork, easily remedied with some spacers). Also, for some reason, the base of the steerer, above the brake mount, the tube has a 1" portion where it is slightly thicker, like they welded a ring around the steerer. This didn't affect the functionality at all, just when you look really close at the bike the fork doesn't sit completely flush inside the steerer tube. I thought maybe I was missing some kind spacer or something but I don't know what that is all about. Anyways like I said, it doesn't affect anything at all. Great fork to put together that extra frame and parts you... Read more ![]() By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Dimension 700c Road Fork (Misc.) Bought this fork recently to replace a broken fork on my older road bike. It was a breeze to install and feels great to ride with. The crown race I had slid right on and everything else was a breeze from there.A few things the listing doesn't provide: ~The threading is ISO ~The fork takes recessed mount brakes ~The brake reach is about 46mm - I was able to mount Shimano R450 brakes barely (they're technically 47-57mm), though a shorter reach brake would probably be better. |
