I got two of these for my rode bike. Neither the front or back has gotten a puncture flat after over 1000 miles. They grip well, i havent had any trouble in the rain, and they seem strong after all of that riding. I highly recommend these. This is my third set of ultra race by Conti. I love the tires resistance to punctures. I have had three bikes in the last 10 years or so, and had ultra race on each of them. Are they perfect? nope. But they are a great tire for training in my opinion.Today was my first ride since replacing my bikes stock specialized all condition tires (puncture prone)and have two cases to praise the tire. First, the tire picked up what appeared to be some steel belt from someones flat truck tire. The steel did penetrate the tire surface, but, that was as far as it went. I noticed it while riding. I stopped, and plucked it out. No issues, and the tire is still inflated to the pressure (100psi) as it should be. Secondly, the road I ride is just terrible. Road debris, garbage, nuts, bolts, and nails galore. I am usually dialed in and miss most everything, but I am not superhuman, and things can just appear it seems at times. I've seen mixed reviews on some on-line bike shop customer review pages; complaints about rolling resistance and flat protection. Bearing this in mind I put one of these on the front wheel, which hardly ever gets flats, and a Cont. Gatorskin on the back. With about 3,000 miles the tire still looks good, only slightly starting to wear and no flats at all. I did notice that the rubber compound must be a little soft as I've found about a half dozen tiny rocks imbedded in the tread. Some could be popped out but others couldn't without ruining the tire. I've never seen this with a Gatorskin and it does make you wonder about puncture resistance. For the slight difference in price I'm inclined to go with Cont. Gatorskins but my experience with Ultra Race has been mostly positive. |
